Yes, as soon as the bank or the agency you are paying for the car gives you a letter saying that you are paying for it and that you can transport it out of the country. With that authorization, you will be able to ship your vehicle.
Can I ship my car from Puerto Rico only with the affidavit?
No. If you do not have the title of the vehicle you must apply to the DTOP (Department of Transportation and Public Works) for a duplicate title in order to transport the vehicle.
Is it mandatory to take out marine insurance?
It is optional. However, for your peace of mind, we always recommend that you take out marine insurance for the transportation of your car. The cost of marine insurance will depend on the declared value of the vehicle.
When do I have to pay taxes in Puerto Rico?
Taxes are the fees paid for the rendering or maintenance of a service. In the case of duties for the importation of cars into Puerto Rico, these must be paid once the vehicle arrives in the country and before removing it from the port.
